BREAKING: Eaves makes cut of Australian PGA Championship
GOLF: It was an anxious last few holes, but Warwick's Sam Eaves has defied the odds at the Australian PGA Championship on the Gold Coast, making the cut of the prestigious tournament.
Sent out as a 1000-1 outsider, bookmakers gave the professional at the Warwick Golf Club no hope of progressing past the first two rounds.
But Eaves battled hard throughout the day, earning himself a spot on the weekend.
Eaves started from the 10th hole yesterday, and experienced a mixed start, with a bogey on the 11th and 13th holes, before birdies on the 12th, 14th and 15th had him at -1.
A double bogey on the 16th put Eaves in danger of missing the cut, as he slipped to +1 for the tournament.
Eaves was able to recover strongly however on his back nine, recording a birdie on the first and third holes.
A bogey on the fourth put Eaves behind the eight-ball as he slipped back to par, before he recovered on the sixth hole to work his way back to -1, and above the cut line.
Eaves was able to maintain his composure for the final three holes, hitting a par on each to finish the day on -1.
