House gutted by fire

FIRE crews battled to save a house at Stanthorpe from fire this afternoon, after being called out shortly after 2.30pm.

The weatherboard home in Sholz Street on the eastern side of town was well-engulfed by flames when they arrived and the residence was eventually completely gutted.

It is understood the family was not at home when the fire started and no-one was injured by the blaze, which was also attended by a fire crew from Warwick.

Initial reports have suggested Stanthorpe fire and rescue were hampered in getting to the scene by a low railway bridge, being forced to take a lengthy detour.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
