BREAKING: Police arrest man accused of nose biting attack

UPDATE 1.30PM: A 41-YEAR-OLD man who allegedly assaulted a man and bit his nose after an argument has been arrested.

Detective Senior Sergeant Luke Peachey confirmed the man was taken into police custody at a Mt Chalmers address and is currently in the Rockhampton watchhouse.

He is expected to be charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and is due to appear in Rockhampton Magistrates Court tomorrow.

INITIAL: POLICE are on the hunt for a man who allegedly bit part of another man's nose off earlier this week.

A fight about tools is thought to have led to the "disgusting” attack which required the victim, a man in his early 30s, to have part of his nose reattached.

Officer in charge of the Rockhampton CIB, Detective Senior Sergeant Luke Peachey, addressed the media this morning in regards to the Mt Chalmers assault.

"Police are seeking information in regards to an assault which took place on Tuesday morning at a School St address in Mt Chalmers,” Det Snr Sgt Peachey said.

"It appears at this stage that a person has presented himself to the Rockhampton police station yesterday alleging that around 7.30am on that morning he was involved in an argument with another male person.

"At this time, a male person known to him has grabbed him around the throat and started choking him before biting his nose.

"As a result of this assault, obviously he has received significant injuries to his nose and was required to seek medical attention to reattach part of that nose.

"There was an argument in regards to some tools being thrown around, obviously one person took offence to it and has taken matters into their own hands and obviously has assaulted this person quite severely.”

The alleged offender is described as being "approximately 171cms with a slim build, short dark brown hair” and in his early 40s.

Rockhampton police are urging anyone with information about the crime to come forward.

"At this stage we're asking for anyone else who may have witnessed this to come forward, also the person who may have been involved in this to come forward so we can speak to him and get to the bottom of this,” Det Snr Sgt Peachey said.

"We're asking people who might know who this person is, he hangs around the (Rockhampton) CBD quite often and has been to a number of businesses recently - so if you do know who he is or if he is at your business, contact police immediately.

"We ask you don't take matters into your own hands as we have concerns for this person's mental state at the moment.

"We hope we are able to resolve this matter quite quickly.”
