Investigators call for witnesses to fatal plane crash

YESTERDAY 12.30PM:

INVESTIGATORS from the transport safety organisation have arrived at the scene of a fatal light plane crash in the Scenic Rim.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau will likely launch a full investigation into what appears to be an accident, that claimed the life of two men this morning.

Witnesses have also been called on to come forward with any evidence that may help determine the cause of the crash.

A spokesperson from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau urged anyone with video, photos or like material should contact the Bureau.

"As part of the investigation the Transport Safety investigators will; be examining the site and wreckage, interview witnesses and gather available recorded data," the spokesperson said.

"Any witnesses to the accident are requested to contact the ATSB on 1800 020 616".

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau is a government organisation working to improve transport safety.

It regularly investigates incidents, such as this mornings plane crash.

EARLIER: 

POLICE are working to contact the families of two men killed in a light plane crash. 

The plane came down in a grassed area at Allenview, near Jimboomba about 9.45am. 

Emergency services were alerted to the incident by a member of the public who sounded the alarm just before 10am.

The aircraft is a Diamond Da 40 and was significantly damaged in the crash landing. 

Emergency services are still on the scene. 

A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said the plane came down on a grassed area and multiple units responded.

"No one required transport," the QAS spokesperson said. 

The tragedy follows a double fatal glider crash on the Darling Downs just over a week ago when a flying instructor and a student were killed.

The pilot killed in that crash was Jeremy Thompson, 62, who was an experienced pilot. 

Mr Thompson's wife witnessed the crash.
