Most expensive bulls in Aus

PAYING $165,000 for an animal? That's no bull.

Just ask Ma Ma Creek stud breeder Tim Neville, who recently bought two red brahman bulls for $165,000 and $150,000 each, making them the most expensive stud brahman bulls bought in Australia.

When you drop the price of a house on two bulls you don't use them for hamburger meat, and Mr Neville plans to add the two high-quality polled sires to his planned $70 million cattle stud east of Toowoomba.

Both bulls were bought from studs near Rockhampton, and neither bull was originally for sale until Mr Neville made the stud owners a very generous offer.

Brett McCamley from Fern Hills Stud sold Mr Neville the $165,000 five-year-old red bull known as Kingston.

“Kingston wasn't meant to be for sale, but selling a bull for that price is a once in a lifetime opportunity,” Mr McCamley said.

“It's great to see that kind of confidence in the industry, especially with all the doubts over what's going on in the live export market.”

The $150,000 bull, 29-month-old H.J. Ray, was sold to Mr Neville by Ken and Wendy Cole from Kenrol Stud.

“We're going to miss H.J. Ray, but we're very happy that he's so highly valued,” Mrs Cole said.
