Bridge to set new heights over flooding
LYNDHURST Lane users are set to benefit from a new, higher and much safer bridge over the Condamine River.
The $2.76 million project is well under way, with construction of the two-lane bridge expected to be largely unaffected by flood- waters.
Southern Downs Regional Council principal engineer Jaya Jayaratne said the old bridge was frequently inundated during floods.
“This bridge should only be affected by high-end flooding, those that happen say once in 50 years,” he said.
Mr Jayaratne said the contractors were working very efficiently.
“We originally set a 20- week period, but the contractor is hoping to finish by mid to late March,” he said.
“The design life of the bridge is about 100 years, but it should last longer.
“Once the bridge is complete, council staff will commence roadworks.”
Mr Jayaratne said the project was made possible with funding from the State Government.
“Seventy-five per cent of the funding is from the Royalties for the Regions grant with the rest from council,” he said.
