New Domino's to dish up around 40 jobs on Fraser Coast

A NEW Torquay Domino's store will deliver up to 40 new jobs when doors open early next week, in a move described as a "shot in the arm" for local employment figures.

Fraser Coast Regional Council Mayor Gerard O'Connell said the opening of the nationally established food chain indicated a renewed sense of business confidence in the Hervey Bay region.

"They (Domino's) are very confident in the future...there's a real sense of positivism," he said.

Domino's store owner Tom Walker said his team had been "hiring like crazy" to fill in the new store's array of casual customer service, management and delivery positions.

His four stores across Hervey Bay and Bundaberg will employ more than 150 people in the Wide Bay by March, he said.

While the majority of the Torquay shop positions have already been filled, delivery driver jobs at both Hervey Bay stores are still open for application on a continuing basis.

"We (currently) push for above 500 deliveries a week, most weeks," Mr Walker said.

Last year, about 30,000 home deliveries from the Pialba store softened the tread on the fleet of three cars and three electric bikes used by staff.

The ability to set up the "ultra modern" and ocean facing Torquay shop was founded on Mr Walkers Pialba store's success.

There was a 250% increase in business since Mr Walker took over ownership of the Pialba store two years ago.

While up to 100,000 pick-up visits were made to the store last year, Mr Walker hopes this figure will double across the two shops.
