Brisbane blaze leaves hundreds of Valley locals homeless
HUNDREDS of residents have been left temporarily homeless after fire tore through an inner Brisbane apartment building on Sunday afternoon.
Fire engulfed the top level of the Cathedral Place apartment complex in Fortitude Valley about 4.40pm on Sunday, sending thick plumes of black smoke into the air and trapping three people in their fifth floor apartment.
It is believed the fire started in an apartment on the fifth floor of the building's H-Block on the corner of Gotha and Ann streets.
Eight units were gutted and dozens more on lower levels were damaged by smoke and water.
