Brisbane rider at home in two star
BRISBANE rider Natalie Siiankoski rode her horse Smart Show Off to victory in the Warwick Freighters and Ag Services CIC Two-star event at Morgan Park yesterday.
Siiankoski led after the dressage and cross country and knocked two rails in the final showjumping round of the day.
She could have been denied victory but the second and third placegetters also knocked rails in the final discipline.
The event attracted 206 riders in all classes, including 2004 Athens Olympian Rebel Morrow who was in the lower grades.
Siiankoski won a World Cup Qualifier in Victoria two years ago but the two-star win at the Warwick Horse Trials Club event was her best on Smart Show Off.
As for campaigning on the horse for the London Olympics, she said the horse was only competing at two-star for a third time.
“We then would have to go up to three and four star, the Olympics is something for down the track,” Siiankoski said.
“My horse did a really good job on the cross country.”
The rider from Brisbane has been a member of the Warwick club and is high in praise of the work done to develop dressage and showjumping arenas on Warwick Horse Trials land adjacent to the cross country course.
“They are making improvements all the time,” she said.
Tamborine rider Kevin McNab was first, second and third with his three horses in the Steelworks CIC one-star event.
