Roar release former EPL youngster to rival

FOOTBALL: Brisbane Roar have released attacker Peter Skapetis to allow him to join Central Coast Mariners.

Skapetis, 23, signed a one-year deal with the Roar in the pre-season after impressing in a host of trials.

But the Melbourne-born player, who was once on the books of English Premier League club Stoke City has failed to fire at A-League level in a struggling Roar side.

The former Australian under-20 and under-23 representative failed to score in 14 appearances, including nine starts, for the Roar.

His Roar contract was mutually terminated and he will link with the Mariners immediately.

Skapetis's departure opens up a spot on the Roar roster, with the club having already started the search for a new signing.
