British invasion
AFTER making four English schoolboys rugby league teams and playing Super League, Jack Smith has headed down under for a season with the Warwick Cowboys.
Smith played in schoolboy age groups from 14-17 years for Lancashire county and England where his side scored easy wins against France and Wales.
Last season, he scored 20 tries in 24 games in under-20 for Widnes Vikings and played four games in Super League.
Like every young footballer, Smith has a dream of playing NRL.
"This is a good opportunity to see Australia," he said.
"I am currently in Australia on a 12-month work visa and might come back again."
Smith has just arrived in Australia and is staying with Cowboys supporters Danny and Anne Lyons and working at Carey Brothers Abattoir.
In England, he worked on the rail lines up and down the country.
He is one of two English forwards in Cowboys ranks, the other being prolific try-scorer Garry Ellery. Like Ellery, Smith plays in the forwards.
"I want to score more tries than Garry," he said.
Smith loves the chance to defend.
He will play for the Cowboys against Oakey tomorrow.
