Brodie on the road to more Qld Cup footy

SPORTSVIEW with Gerard Walsh

IT IS great to see young sportsmen and women from the Southern Downs follow a sporting dream after they leave school and leave town.

One such athlete is Brodie Sharman, who went to Allora State School and Assumption College, and played rugby league with Wattles before heading to Brisbane with an ambition to play Queensland Cup footy.

He has since moved to the Sunshine Coast but did play in a Intrust Super Queensland Cup team before injury intervened.

Brodie has just turned 21 and is on the road back from injury and there is still plenty of time for him to play a lot of cup footy.

Players who make it to Cup footy are only one step away from the NRL.

I will never forget the story I wrote about Brodie performing well, perhaps breaking a record, in Warwick All Schools athletics.

I did write he ran 10.7 seconds in the 100m, which would have had him in Australian 4 by 100m relay contention when you converted the time from grass at Hamilton Oval to a faster synthetic track.

I did clarify his time the next day, 11.7, which was still excellent for a schoolboy.

A bit of pace helps in most sports, especially if you are an outside back in rugby league.

Other players from this area to play Queensland Cup rugby league in the past five years include Ben Sullivan, Dylan Galloway, Josh Jerome, Dan Murphy, Scott Ellis and Ryan Kinlyside. Any more, give me a call on 46601313 today.
