Broncos Challenge finals this week in Warwick
SCHOOL SPORT: Finals will be played in Anglo American Broncos Challenge rugby league and netball tomorrow.
The rugby league finals will be at the junior rugby league ovals in Jackie Howe Dr while netball finals will be played at Barnes Park.
The competitions for secondary students in Years 7-10 are played in the first half of the year, with the sponsors assisting with travel costs and providing trophies, which will be presented tomorrow afternoon after the rugby league finals.
The competitions have been played for more than 15 years after being started by the Brisbane Broncos Rugby League Club with support from teachers at Southern Downs and Border schools. Teams from as far as Texas and Goondiwindi are involved.
The Broncos are always represented at the finals with forward Matt Gillett one of the recent visitors to netball and rugby league finals in Warwick.
Warwick State High School will play Goondiwindi High in the battle for the A-grade rugby league trophy in the cup final at 4.15pm tomorrow at Collegians Oval. Three games will be played on each of the junior fields, Collegians and Suburbs, starting at 2pm.
In netball, nine games will be played at Barnes Park. There will be three games at 1.30pm, three at 2.30pm and three at 3.30pm. The A-grade cup final will be between Goondiwindi High and a combined Allora, Clifton and Killarney netball team.
In the B-grade cup finals, Warwick High and Goondiwindi High will play league at 3.10pm on Collegians field, and in netball, Goondiwindi and Warwick high schools will meet. Goondiwindi and Stanthorpe play in C-grade cup netball.
