Brother of Xylon Smith scores debut try for Cutters
ZURICH Smith rose to the occasion on debut in Saturday's Killarney Cutters loss to Warwick Cowboys in the Xylon Smith Memorial Shield game at Charlie Andrews Oval.
Warwick won 42-4 after also winning the reserve-grade game against a combined Killarney/Wallangarra team.
Killarney co-coach Ray Wagner said despite the scoreline, he was very happy with his team.
"They all played well in both grades,” Wagner said.
"The Cowboys were good, I though Dion Galloway was their stand-out player. I have no doubt the Cowboys will again be a force in the TRL this season.
"Zurich Smith scored our try and played on the wing, this is the first year he is old enough to play senior footy. His brother Mick Marshall passed the ball to him for the try.
"The third of the brothers in the team, prop John Trindall hit the ball up well all day.”
The Cutters will play the Border Rugby League round robin at Inglewood in a fortnight. Killarney has signed 30 players this season, the most in recent years.
The Cowboys play round 1 of the TRL against Pittsworth on Sunday at Father Ranger Oval.
