THE Brothers Leprechauns left no doubt they are major TRL premiership contenders when they slid into top gear to overwhelm a slow starting Wattles outfit 41-14 at Platz Oval yesterday.

Fullback Ben Loxley scored in the opening minute of play, his side eventually rolling in four first half tries to Wattles single effort by front-rower Ashley Evans to lead 26-6 at half-time.

Wattles sparked early in the new stanza with tries by Luke Baker and Jeff Nielsen to trail 14-26, but Brothers regained their composure to dominate the final 20 minutes, scoring three further touchdowns for victory.

Ashley Evans was strong throughout taking players’ player and player of the match honours for the Warriors, while hooker Liam Ross and front-rower Matt McCarthy also rated highly.

Wattles second graders strengthened their hold on fourth place on the competition ladder, winning 42-30 over Brothers. Hooker Josh McIntosh was outstanding, along with playing coach Rob McIntosh and centre Coedie Tandy.

Wattles trailed 16-18 at the break, before scoring six second half tries.

Rob McIntosh (2), Brandon Cubby (2), Walter McIntosh (2), Anthony McIntosh, Coedie Tandy and Lee Lousick scored tries with Matt Tuiono (2), Anthony McIntosh and Dean Cubby kicking goals.

After trailing 16-0 after 20 minutes, and 20-10 at half-time, an undermanned Wattles under 18 side lifted to win 30-26 over Brothers.

Anthony McIntosh had an outstanding game, scoring two tries and winning the player of the match and players’ player.

Big forwards Jim Johnson, Lee Lousick and Carl Gale impressed as they ground down their opponents to snatch an unexpected victory. Brandon Cubby, Josh Henry, Lee Lousick and Jarrod Coley also crossed for Wattles tries while Anthony McIntosh (2) and Brandon Cubby kicked goals.
