Budding artist wins top prize
MILLICENT Kelly has taken out the top prize in the Peace and Harmony Art Competition for her beautiful piece, titled Cherry Blossom.
The competition was organised by Young Ambassador Lithia Kusu and attracted many entries from talented young artists.
Southern Downs Regional Council youth development officer Hailey Cosh said judges were astounded by the quality of work and composition.
"The judges had a difficult time choosing the winners as the artwork submitted was of such a high standard," she said.
"We congratulate Millicent and all the winners on their efforts," Ms Cosh said.
Ms Cosh made special mention of the person who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the event's success.
"I would also like to congratulate Lithia who did a great job organising this wonderful project," she added.
"This project has provided budding artists with a much needed avenue for expression."
The artworks will be displayed in the outdoor frames in Queens Park and Federation Park in early November.
Ms Cosh said she was eager to see the competition return again in 2013.
