Budget ‘overlooks’ those hard done by

IN THE eyes of the Salvation Army the Federal Budget fails to accommodate those struggling to make ends meet.

Lieutenant corps officer for Warwick Steve Spencer said the region's most vulnerable people had once again been overlooked by the government.

He said he would have liked to see a budget that catered for all Australians.

Lt Spencer listed making childcare more affordable, creating more jobs and implementing policies that aided those living on income support as a few items he would have liked to see included.

"Those who are forced to live on income support payments almost entirely live under the poverty line, with very little, if anything, left over once the rent and utility bills have been paid," he said.

"This is happening to people all over Australia, including Warwick."

Lt Spencer said he understood the pressures and challenges those creating the Federal Budget faced.

"I don't think that any treasurer in any country has ever had an easy budget," he said.

"There are always those that will be happy and those will not be pleased.

"You can't please all the people all the time."

The Salvation Army was impressed the government's plans to support young people and older residents in the workforce.

Lt Spencer said the Salvation Army would continue to encourage the government to invest in services which lifted vulnerable Australians out of poverty.

He said it was the only way we would see a more positive outcome for society in general and greater savings for the budget bottom line over the long term.
