Budget windfall: $1.3b coming for Toowoomba bypass

THE Toowoomba Second Range Crossing is in line for a $1.3 billion funding injection when the federal Budget is handed down tomorrow night.

Media reports are that long awaited bypass will be allocated $1.2 billion in new funding in Treasurer Joe Hockey's first Budget.

That will cover 80 per cent of the construction costs.

Recently, concerns had been raised that the bypass had stalled despite promises from the Abbott Government at the last election to get construction started.

The State and Federal governments were due to invite companies to register proposed business models in taking part in the $1.3 billion project by late-March.

More than a month has passed yet both political tiers remain eerily silent on the matter.
