Bump and grind expected at state championships
MOTORSPORT: A bit of a bump and tussle for top positions will be part of the fun of watching the Confederation of Australian Motorsport state championships at Morgan Park Raceway this weekend.
Warwick District Sporting Car Club president Michael Reynolds said it would be a thrilling competition but drivers weren't afraid to make contact.
"There will be 28 or 30 cars on the track, they might have a bit of a bump here and there,” Reynolds said.
"They don't give up their positions, they're pretty serious out there.”
About 100 entries have been gathered for round two of the four-round series at Morgan Park.
Reynolds said the numbers were a bit down but competitors were travelling from as far as Rockhampton and Ballina to compete.
"The group of cars is all very competitive so the racing is very close,” Reynolds said.
A good contingent of improved production cars will be taking to the track as well as saloon cars.
Reynolds said another highlight would be the competition between superkarts.
All cars will compete on the 3km track, allowing spectators to get full view of the action.
"There's some good vantage points on the hill at the top part of the circuit so people can get onto the hill and enjoy the racing,” Reynolds said.
Pits will also be open for spectators to interact with drivers.
Reynolds said Morgan Park was in good condition for the weekend of racing.
"The drivers love to come to Warwick, because of the track, and it also brings a new group of people to Warwick,” he said.
Entry is free across the two-day event running today and tomorrow.
Racing will start about 8.30am today and finish about 4pm.
Action continues at 8am tomorrow and runs until 3pm.
