'Just buy them a leaf blower' to solve bunya problems

"FOR goodness sakes, can you just buy them a leaf blower," was the response of the Southern Downs Regional Council chief executive as councillors discussed the Warwick Croquet Club's complaints about a troublesome bunya pine tree in Leslie Park.

The councillors have been fielding complaints regarding damage caused to the club house by falling bunya nuts and branches on and off since 2005.

It was discussed again during yesterday's engineering services committee meeting, and director of engineering Peter See made three recommendations to the council.

The first was the council not remove the tree; the second was to continue the annual dead wood and nut removal program; and the third was for the group to apply for a government community grant to purchase a leaf blower.

The council were quick to approve the first two recommendations but dealt with the third option separately.

"I don't think the CEO is happy," Mayor Blundell said.

At this point, the chief executive strongly suggested the council fork out for the leaf blower.

The leaf blower will be purchased with money from the Mayor's fund.
