Burglars clean up while residents enjoy weekend

BURGLARS spent the Australia Day long weekend fleecing Rose City residents out of their hard-earned property.

In the past four days alone, an unknown number of offenders have stolen a cache of valuables from different victims.

A car was stolen from a Stacey St home on Sunday after the keys were taken from the unlocked house.

It was later recovered in the Green Belt with damage to the front tyres.

Overnight on Monday an unlocked Percy St residence was burgled and a handbag and wallet was stolen.

That same evening offenders forced their way into Central School.

Nothing was taken but a door was damaged during the break-in.

Fitzroy St residents were also burgled on Monday and offenders made off with money, a wallet and a Nintendo DS.

Sometime between Sunday evening and Monday morning money and sunglasses and money were taken from a Dragon St property and a wallet was stolen from an unlocked Albert St home.

The offences are all believed to have happened at night time.

Warwick Police Acting Officer-In-Charge Lisa Self is urging people not to make it an easy crime for offenders to commit.

"The message for this week is for people to keep their cars and homes locked, even when they are at home," she said.

"If you have sensor lights make sure they are switched on and working and if the dog is barking, go and check it out. And if you are worried, give us a call.

"People in Warwick don't always realise we are a 24-hour station or they don't want to bother us.

"Let us know - that is what we are here for."

Anyone with information on the burglaries should phone Warwick Police on 46604444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800333000.
