Burning off season currently under way

AS THE cooler weather arrives, so does the perfect opportunity to start burning off.

There are a number of different ways to prepare ahead of bushfire season.

These include burning off or slashing unwanted grass, clearing out gutters, trimming trees, cleaning under if possible and around houses with at least 50-60m of clean area.

Stanthorpe currently rates in the top five worst areas in Queensland for bush fires.

“Happy Valley and a few of those other places, Horan’s Gorge, Townsends Rd, Limberlost Rd and there’s a few other areas,” group officer for Stanthorpe Roni Bau said.

If help is required with burning off, Mr Bau said to contact the local brigade.

“Burn controlled and safely, if they need assistance as their local brigades,” Mr Bau said.

“Their local brigades can go and assist them or give them the help they need.”

Before burning off, remember it is necessary to obtain a permit.

“If they don’t know their local warden they can either contact me on my mobile or go to page 33 in the Granite informer,” Mr Bau said.

For more information on local wardens, phone Roni Bau on 0427 834 362. Burning off season now continues until the weather heats up again.
