Butchery now a family affair on Lyons Street

INVOLVED in the meat trade for all of their lives, the new owners of Lyons Street Butchery assure us they are the far from vegetarians.

"Most of our family has been involved with meat in one way or another," owner and butcher Michael Brickley said.

Eager to be back to his roots as a butcher, the Warwick local has done it all.

From endurance horse trainer in Dubai to quality assurance officer the family man said he was happy to have a change in pace.

"I started as a butcher in 1975 but did other things since. It will be nice to work here as a family," he said, now working with his wife Robyn and son Adrian.

"We wanted to set this up for our kids, and then hopefully they will look after us when we are older," Robyn Brickley joked.

Nervous but excited about the new point in their life, she said the decision to buy the butchery was only recent.

"We only decided to start our own business three months ago," she said.

"I still have a full-time job at John Dee but will be doing the books and pay here.

"It's a new phase for our family."

Only a few hours into working with his parents Adrian Brickley said he hadn't had too much trouble yet.

"I'm sure dad will turn up the heat soon though," he laughed.

The locals say they hope to be known for their good product, quality, local sourcing and reasonable prices.

"I recommend all of it but my favourite is the marinated pork chops," Michael said, however admits he can't beat a good steak.

To serve the early morning market crowd the Lyons Street Butchery will now open at 5am Wednesdays and Saturdays.

"This way people can pop in and get all their groceries done at the same time," Michael said.
