By George, will he be Prince Tom or Jerry?

WHILE the world is abuzz with news of the unnamed royal baby's birth, Warwick is experiencing a surplus of English excitement as locals make some strong proposals for baby boy names alongside some strong suggestions towards lack of interest.

Name suggestions for Prince William and Kate's newborn son have come in all shapes and forms with everything from Archibald to Francis to Dave in the mix.

With the royal bub announced by town crier Tony Appleton on the steps of St Mary's Hospital, we decided to talk to the Rose City's own town crier, Bob Townshend about the excitement.

An Englishman himself, Bob Townshend has a strong inclination towards the royal tot being called George.

"I think they might veer from the really traditional names but look back in family history to find a name that hasn't been used for a long time," he said.

"There have been a few Georges but Phillip might be a possibility too.

"He's a very old gentleman and hasn't been very well so they might choose to honour that."

Other suggestions on the streets of Warwick yesterday included James, Arthur, William and Henry.

Tom and Jerry were also recommended.

Federal LNP Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott was slightly more enthusiastic about the news.

"I, like many, was swept up in the excitement of the arrival of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's son," Mr Scott said.

"They stand as a great example for the monarchy and I'm sure many in the Maranoa were also delighted by the baby's arrival."

Will the royal family be soon showing off one George Jerry Windsor perhaps?
