Georgie Gardner: ‘There’s a part of me that feels wary’

WHEN journalist Georgie Gardner woke up with Today as the breakfast show's new co-host this morning she hoped she would instantly click with viewers.

But she knows that stepping into Lisa Wilkinson's spot alongside Channel 9 mainstay Karl Stefanovic comes with its risks, particularly when it came to sharing more of her opinion and personality with viewers.

"There's a part of me that feels wary because we live in a time now where there is just so much scrutiny, we live in this very weird era of clickbait and I just hope with that that I don't lose my spontaneity," she said.

"I figure we're all at risk of saying something that we might ... regret or feel 'oh gosh I wish I didn't say that', but I hope that doesn't override the genuine side of me and my authenticity".

Much controversy has already been made about the tension that supposedly exists between Gardner and Stefanovic, with some suggestions the pair don't get along.

But the 46-year-old said the ongoing speculation about their relationship had been "hyped up a fair bit".
