BYRON Bay's Stone & Wood can't seem to take a wrong step, just being named Number 2 in the Critic's Choice Top Beers of 2012

The top award went to Feral Brewing Company's Hop Hog India Pale Ale.

The award describes the beer as "cloudy and golden with a big fruity aroma and a refreshing finish".

Critics Choice editor in chief Pete Mitcham was lavish in his praise for the ale.

"One barley malt, one dash of wheat malt, one hop variety used throughout," he wrote of Pacific Ale.

"Sometimes the simple things in life truly are the best.

"How then, do they make it feel as though a thousand pleasant memories are dancing across your tongue with every sip?"

In February 2012, Pacific Ale was voted number one in the Taphouse Brewery Hottest 100 beers in Australia.

Stone and Wood has been producing beer in Byron Bay's Arts and Industry Estate since 2008.
