Cabinet meeting of sorts

CABINET met in Warwick yesterday but it wasn't Premier Campbell Newman and his State Cabinet.

It was a cabinet that has overseen the donation of $76,000 this year from its district to help people hit by bushfires and floods.

The Lions Club District 201 QI Cabinet of 65 members meets quarterly and arrived in Warwick for some preliminary talks at the Jackie Howe Motel on Saturday afternoon before enjoying dinner and turning up yesterday for the cabinet meeting.

District governor Merv Ferguson said the district was comprised of 88 clubs, including four in zone 14 - Warwick, Killarney, Stanthorpe and Tenterfield.

"We have sent some money south to help with the bushfires and some money up to Bundaberg to help flood victims this year through the Lions Club in the Bundaberg area," Mr Ferguson said.

He said the district would launch a membership promotion next month.

"I have been to a Warwick club meeting and they are an excellent club which has signed four new members recently," he said.

At the weekend, past zone chairman Con Lo Giudice, of Warwick, was presented with an excellence award and member Ros Keim received a 10 years Chevron Monarch award for her first decade of membership.
