Call for hook and hoof entries

IT IS that time of year again, when cattle producers in the local region and further afield are preparing their animals for one of the most prestigious carcase competitions in the country.

The 51st Warwick Show and Rodeo Society's Prime Cattle Hoof and Hook competition is being held from September 19 to 21, and entries are now being called for all classes.

Hoof classes will be judged at the Warwick Saleyards at 8am on Thursday, September 19, and Hook classes will be judged once again at the John Dee Abattoirs on Saturday, September 21.

Carcase viewing will take place at John Dee from 2.30pm on Saturday.

Committee chairman, Bill Gross, said that the competition had again attracted great prize-money and valuable trophies.

He said the exhibitors of the Champion Heavyweight, Domestic Trade and Grainfed Carcase would each receive $750 cash, plus the winners of all Hook classes received $500, while the Hoof class winners received $200.

All winners will be presented with their trophies at the Warwick Credit Union Beef and Lamb Dinner being held at the Douglas Feez Pavilion on September 21. Entries close 4pm tomorrow and schedules are available from the show office or your preferred agent.
