Campbell Newman set for visit

CAMPBELL Newman has agreed to visit the Southern Downs next month, Member for Southern Downs Lawrence Springborg has revealed.

Mr Springborg contacted the Daily News this week to say he was working on the state LNP leader visiting Stanthorpe and Warwick on September 22 and 23.

This confirmation came days after a non-committal response from Mr Newman's spokeswoman about when he would visit.

“There is a function in Stanthorpe on the Thursday night we will attend and we will be going around and meeting with some of the community leaders,” Mr Springborg said.

“We'll also look at some of the major issues in Stanthorpe Friday morning, meet with various organisations and spokespeople and then come to Warwick about lunchtime to do the same there.”

Mr Springborg had wanted Mr Newman to visit the rest of the electorate, but said the time constraints made it impossible.

The visit has been partly facilitated by the branch party in Stanthorpe.

While Mr Newman's visit could be cancelled if something “major” happened, Mr Springborg was confident the state leader would visit the Southern Downs in the near future.

“A major event that we can't foresee is always possible, but unlikely,” he said.

Mr Springborg said he was still arranging the finer details of the itinerary and there would be opportunities for media and community representatives to meet with Mr Newman.
