Warwick driver sets lap record in practice at Bathurst
MATT Campbell was the quickest in the two practice sessions in the Porsche Carrera Cup at Bathurst yesterday and in the process set a new lap record.
The young gun from Warwick told the Daily News between practice runs that his pit crew had made a few minor adjustments for the second practice session.
"It is great to race at Bathurst with the longer laps, longer track and more corners," he said.
"Bathurst is a lot more technical than most tracks."
There is qualifying and one race today and races on Saturday and Sunday.
The Sunday race for the Porsche cars will be before the Bathurst 1000.
He is just outside of the top five in the series and with two rounds to go is aiming for the top-five finish.
"I can't win the championship from here," he said.
"We are now working on plans for next year."
After this weekend, the next round will be at the Gold Coast in a fortnight.
He will then travel to New Zealand for the second time for GT racing in the south island in combination with fellow Australian driver Michael Hovey.
