Campdrafting nominations to open next week for Warwick
CAMPDRAFTING: Nominations will open on September 26 at 8pm for the campdraft program at the Warwick Rodeo.
As has been the case in recent years, all nominations are online through Campdraft Central.
Warwick Show and Rodeo Society CEO Julie Peterson said the Campdraft Central system could take a large number of entries at the one time.
"We are putting a limit of 900 horse-and-rider combinations for the Pryde's EasiFeed Warwick Gold Cup and the Black Toyota Canning Downs Campdraft,” she said.
"There is a limit of 200 for the Vanderfield Hino Ladies Silver Cup draft and the Frasers Livestock Transport Stallion Draft. The first 40 eligible horse-and-rider combinations will be accepted for the Maydan Feedlot Champion of Champions.”
The first riders will be on course at the campdrafting at 5.30am on October 24, with action starting early morning over the whole seven days.
Judges for the campdrafting are Matthew McCormack (NSW) for the Gold Cup, Stephen Sheppard (Roma, Qld) for the Canning Downs, Lauren Perrett (Springsure, Qld) for the Silver Cup and Lindsay Anderson (SE Queensland) for the stallion draft. The Gold Cup and Canning Downs draft judges will jointly judge the champion of champions.
Rodeo events will start at 6pm on October 27 with action over four days in The Carlton Dry Warwick Rodeo National Finals.
The top 15 in all eight Australian Professional Rodeo Association events have qualified for the national finals, being held in conjunction with junior and second-division rodeo events at the Warwick Rodeo.
The saddle bronc will have the most interest for Southern Downs fans with favourite Michael Maher, as well as Mark Collins, Peel Tribe and Lane Grayson all in the top 15 and on home territory.
After winning three individual titles last year and the all around cowboy buckle, Emerald cowboy Shane Kenny will be back, but will only have two events to score points towards the all around, rope and tie and team roping.
