Campers urged to take care when lighting fires

Queenslanders lucky enough to be headed for a camping or bushwalking adventure are being urged to take care when lighting fires.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services has highlighted a number of steps people can take to avoid their date with Mother Nature turning sour.

Special rules apply to lighting camp fires in some parks, and only light fires in cleared areas with no overhanging branches and minimal scrub.

Fires should always be extinguished with water - not sand or dirt.

Meanwhile, the SES is encouraging bushwalkers to take precautions to ensure they don't get lost.

Bushwalkers should have a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) or Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) so that they could be located during an emergency.
