Cape school to be shutdown over fears for teacher's safety

A REMOTE indigenous school will be shut for five school days and staff temporarily moved to Cairns after Education minister Kate Jones said she was "deeply concerned" about the safety of its teachers.

Teachers at the Aurukun campus of the Cape York Aboriginal Australian Academy, held a meeting last night citing personal safety concerns following community unrest, Newscorp reports.

They passed five motions including that they be removed from the community, housing security be upgraded to 24 hours, and that construction start on a "teacher community safe precinct" by the end of the year.
