Captain returns home and now leads Cowboys in GF
RUGBY LEAGUE: After 64 games in the Intrust Super Cup competition, Dylan Galloway has the chance to lead the Warwick Cowboys to their first TRL premiership in A grade for 28 years.
Galloway travelled from Killarney to play his first senior footy for the Cowboys before heading to Brisbane for a chance to press for Broncos under-20 selection.
He ended up playing colts at Norths and won a premiership in Brisbane with two of the current Cowboys, Trent Richardson and Sam Broomhall. Former Warwick Cowboys player Dan Murphy was in the same team.
"I went to Brisbane as I wanted to play at the highest level I could,” Galloway said.
"I wasn't sure what that was at the time.”
He ended up playing 64 games in the Intrust Super Cup, the highest standard competition in Queensland after the NRL.
"It was always my intention to come home and settle down,” he said.
A fitter and turner by trade, he moved home, secured a position at APN Print, signed up for the Cowboys before an unexpected trip to Warwick Hospital.
Galloway was in hospital for four nights eight months ago for what turned out to be meningococcal disease.
"I had an injection and the doctor and staff at Warwick Hospital treated me for the worst case scenario, I was very happy with the care,” he said.
"My girlfriend Katie Johnson insisted I get checked out when I had flu like symptoms.”
Footy was the furthest thing from his mind at the time.
"Rugby league is only a game, we all love playing it but good health is more important,” he said.
Galloway made a full recovery and he only missed one week of training before leading the Cowboys by example all season and securing a position in the centres in the TRL Team of the Season.
As for the result in the 2.30pm grand final against Pittsworth on Sunday, Galloway said his side could definitely win.
"We need to play to our potential, we didn't play our best in the major semi-final loss to Pittsworth.”
