Captains from Warwick High honoured this week
ATHLETICS: Warwick High students Natalia Webb and Justyn Rogers have been named two of the captains of Darling Downs teams for the 13-19 years state championships which start in Brisbane on Thursday.
Webb is the female track captain and Rogers the male field champion.
Both won age championships this year at Warwick High and Southern Downs carnivals.
Rogers won the high, long and triple jump treble at the Darling Downs championships and also qualified in the 100m and the relay. He was third in triple jump and fourth in long jump last year but it is high jump where he is impressing most this year.
Webb missed the regional championships with injury but her 100m and 200m times this season were enough to secure her selection.
This year's state championships will be the fifth for the captains since they enrolled at Warwick High in year 8. Both are junior coaches for Rogers Sports Coaching under Warwick teachers Nathan and Bec Rogers.
Webb and Rogers will captain a team with a large Southern Downs and Border representation after the area had 49 placegetters at the regionals at Hamilton Oval.
Lucy is captain
SCOTS PGC College student Lucy Bourke is a Darling Downs captain for the regional team to contest the state 10-12 years state championships on Tuesday and Wednesday this week in Brisbane.
Emily Phelan, Olivia Macdonald, Reagan McMillan, Denika Murray, Katie Jansink, Morgan O'Leary, Caitlyn Springborg, Noah Mackenzie, Jackson Pitstock, Hamish Gartery, Cooper Harm, Samuel Wainwright, Darcy Pitstock, Arie Van Kerkwyk and Braethen Scott are the Southern Downs connection in the Darling Downs team.
Braethen Scott from Texas State School won the award for best boy at the Darling Downs 10-12 years championships.
