Capturing our history in a snap, or two
PHOTOGRAPHY has been a passion for Glenda Riley for as long as she can remember and has decided to turn it into her career, starting her business, Glenda R Photography and PicturePatch Projects.
Putting her dream on hold, Ms Riley worked as a nurse, before once again deciding she wanted to pursue the art.
"It's (photography) always been there, I've always kept up to date, read and when I went to Brisbane in the late 80s I did little bits of pieces, just a few weddings and such,” she said.
"When I had to retired back in 2012, I thought 'well I've got to do something to keep my sanity' so I thought 'let's get a little bit more serious about what I'm doing'.”
Through her business, Ms Riley works closely with parkrun, Snowflakes in Stanthorpe and the Chamber of Commerce.
"I prefer events, commercial and corporate events and that's where I'm wanting to move (into) more, and publications,” she said.
"It's about giving back to the community that's made you welcome and the community has made me welcome.”
Through her work, Ms Riley enjoys capturing moments of history.
"The way I see things, I believe in documenting our history,” she said.
"We are living history all the time and the only way we know how people lived 150 years ago, is the very early photographs.”
Ms Riley is currently expanding her business, finishing her degree online, preparing to expand her social media network and planning a special publication.
"I'm wanting to produce a series of booklets, or magazine style booklets on the region,” she said.
Ms Riley is currently planning workshops to beginners learn more about the basics of photography and lighting.
