Thieves target parked cars
POLICE are appealing for information from the public in relation to a spate of vehicle break-ins around Warwick in recent days.
A spokesman said police had been made aware of at least five vehicles to which thieves had gained entry, with cash and valuables the hoped-for target.
He said some of the vehicles had been left unsecured by their owners, while the offenders had achieved their entry to others by smashing windows or forcing doors.
“Investigations are ongoing into a number of vehicle thefts which have been carried out at thew weekend and in the past fortnight,” the spokesman said.
“There have been at least five in the town area that we are aware of but we urge the public to report any such incidents.
“We would also like information from the public as to suspicious activity or from anyone with knowledge of those engaged in these offences.”
The spokesman said the thieves were typically opportunistic and urged owners not only to secure their vehicles when not in use but to not leave money or items of value in such a way as to be visible from the outside.
“These vehicles have been parked on the street and in some cases in private yards,” the spokesman said.
“We just urge motorists to ensure their vehicles are as secure as possible, preferably within a locked garage or shed overnight and properly secured if parked outside during the day.”
Anyone with information is asked to call the Warwick Police on 4660 4444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000.
