Career switch is great for Marnie
NEWCOMER Marnie Morgan is excited to start her new job at Oak Tree retirement village, and took the opportunity meet residents as part of their fourth annual Italian luncheon yesterday.
After 14 years working in real estate, Marnie decided she wanted a change of career and decided to go into a completely different direction - aged care.
Three years down the track and Marnie has never looked back.
"I absolutely love it," she said.
Appointed as the new manager for Oak Tree retirement village, Marnie is in the process of relocating to Warwick.
"The last time I was Warwick was about 20 years ago," she said.
"It's always been beautiful and it's progressed so much.
"It has maintained that sense of community; it's so warm and welcoming."
She is looking forward to starting on September 2, where part of her duties will include organising activities and events for residents throughout the year.
"I love meeting all the different people and hearing about their journeys and experiences," she said.
"I enjoy learning about their individual stories. I'm putting names to faces."
Marie will take over the position of previous manager Jenny Brown, who is off to Rockhampton after five years in Warwick.
Jenny said she was excited for the future and to see her relatives, but at the same time she was sad to leave the residents.
"They have become part of my family," she said.
"I'm going to miss them all."
She said the best part about her job was "when you can help someone, or see them all enjoying themselves."
Her last day will be Friday August 30.
