CareFlight and school the big winners

THE piglets will be off and running this weekend at the annual Sandy Creek Pig Races.

The races raise vital funds for Wheatvale State School and RACQ CareFlight.

Organiser Jodi Crowley said the event had been bigger and better each year.

“This is the sixth year we’ve held the races, and we have raised over $50,000 so far,” she said.

“We have seven races, a free jumping castle, animal nursery and activities for the kids.

“We also auction various items including wood carvings and one tonne of manure.”

Mrs Crowley said the cause was a personal one for the organisers.

“The event needs community support now more than ever before,” she said.

“We’ve all had our lives touched in some way by RACQ CareFlight, including Gary and Ivy Little who were airlifted after their car accident and my grandchild has been airlifted three times.”

Gates open at 1.30pm with racing from 2pm.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children at the gate, or $10 for adults pre-purchased from the Sandy Creek Pub.
