Carlee Beattie leaps 5.75 metres for charge to Rio

WARWICK athlete Carlee Beattie has finished first in her long jump class at the Australian Athletics Championships to continue her drive towards the Rio de Janeiro Paralympics.

She was first in the T47 class with a best of 5.75m but showed good consistency with leaps of 5.62m and 5.50m in her other two jumps.

New Zealand star Anna Grimaldi had a best of 5.21m in the same event.

Beattie has bettered the qualifying distance for Rio and it is only a formality she will be named in the Australian team.

She is one of nine nominees for the Female Para-Athlete of the Year this weekend.

Meanwhile, Allora athlete Matthew Denny competes in discus qualifying this morning and then the final of hammer late this afternoon.
