Carlee guest at senior sports star awards night on March 20
SPORTS STAR: Paralympic medallist Carlee Beattie will return to her hometown to be guest speaker at the Daily News/Warwick Credit Union Senior Sports Star of the Year awards. The event will be held on March 20 at the Warwick RSL Club.
Tickets for the dinner are currently on sale at the Daily News. Ticket purchasers can reserve places on the tables of individual monthly winners or book their own table.
It is hoped family and friends will support the monthly winners along with representatives of their clubs and 10 sports represented among the 11 winners.
A presentation will be made to each winner as well as the overall winner by Warwick Credit Union CEO Lewis von Stieglitz. The Warwick RSL Memorial Club's Club Person of the Year will also be named.
Beattie is in heavy training in Brisbane for the Australian championships at the end of March and this year's world championships but will take time out from training and full-time work to return home for the night.
She won gold in long jump at the world championships in her class at Doha and has the chance to press for back-to-back gold later this year in London.
At Paralympic level, Beattie has competed in Beijing, London and Rio and has silver and bronze medals in long jump.
She is a multiple Australian championship winner and has the world record of 6.01m for her category in Paralympics athletics.
