Carnell Raceway is ready to roar
CARNELL Raceway’s second to last drag meet will be held tomorrow.
Entry for spectators is $10 and $50 for competitors.
Toowoomba racer Steve Cay will drive his 1974 Holden HQ Monaro GTS Coupe, powered by a 350ci Chevy, which runs on a B&M Lo-Blow supercharger.
Cay, who hasn’t been to Stanthorpe for 15 years, was the 2010 Eighth-Mile Drag Racing Series runner-up in the Super Street category.
His mate, Rodney Coutts, will race a big block Chevy-powered HJ Statesman in his first time on an eighth-mile drag strip.
Terri Sander, from Brisbane, will be one of the female drivers to compete.
She races a Rover powered by a 350ci Chevy V8 motor that has run a best of 11.11 seconds down the quarter-mile and a best of 7.07s over the eighth.
She has won three gold Super Street Christmas Tree Trophies and the 2009/2010 Australian Super Street Championships.
Sander has been drag racing since 1993 at her home track, Willowbank. While she competes at drag strips throughout Australia, this will be her first time at the Stanthorpe track.
The Stanthorpe and District Sporting Car Club encourages more women to have a go or see what it’s like to be involved in this adrenaline-rushing sport.
Janet Rigg and Sue Friend will also compete. Rigg races a Holden V8 ute and Friend races the well-known 265ci Hot Stuff Gallant.
Several Warwick drivers will also compete. Gates open at noon with racing from 3pm. Inquiries to Rob Brown on 4681 2923 or Janet Rigg on 4681 4037.
