Hockey carnival needs volunteers

WITH some of the men from hockey out of town at another carnival, Warwick Hockey Association secretary Bec Wright is calling for some new volunteers to help out at the Queensland Ladies’ Veterans State Championships on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.

Warwick will host 42 teams for three days of ladies hockey with games on six fields, three used regularly for hockey and three on the cricket/football oval.

The Warwick men’s over-45 team will travel to Bundaberg for state championships on the same weekend which reduces the pool of volunteers to help run the Queens Park carnival.

“Many of the Warwick men’s team are volunteers for carnivals so we need some new volunteers, particularly people with first-aid certificates,” Wright said.

“Volunteers are also needed to work behind the bar and help in the canteen.”

Wright said the carnival would bring 1000 people to the town for the weekend.

“We have teams staying as far away as Bestbrook,” she said.

“The QCWA is working on the long weekend to prepare salad rolls for each day of the carnival and we have been in contact with Cancer Council Queensland to help with a barbecue.”

Anyone interested in assisting is asked to call Wright on 0419 678507.
