Carpet snake makes a meal of pet cockatoo in cage
A PRIZED family pet has been swallowed by a carpet python in a River Heads backyard.
The family lost Charlie the cockatoo on Sunday when the carpet snake made a meal of the Australian native overnight after finding a tiny hole in the cage.
"It's found the only little hole in the cage, where Charlie used to put her head out for a little scratch," a family member said.
"After swallowing Charlie, the snake's been too fat to squeeze back out of the hole.
"Poor Charlie was part of the family for 10 or 15 years."
She said her father contacted local snake catcher Roy McGrath who helped to relocate the 4m python.
