Woman accuses co-worker of reaching between her legs

A DISABILITY carer has broken down in court after being accused of bringing assault allegations against a co-worker to make a "quick buck".

The woman alleges former colleague, Fleetwood Barney, was showing her how a client should be cleaned when he reached between her legs.

She claims the incident was the "straw that broke the camel's back" following a series of alleged inappropriate interactions between the two during which Mr Barney apparently suggested the pair have a "threesome" with a client and, on a separate occasion, thrust his pelvis against her back.

Mr Barney has pleaded not guilty to one count of common assault.

Berated by defence lawyer Lesley Powell for alleged inconsistencies in statements, the woman was accused of making up the claims after hearing another person in similar circumstances had won a compensation payout for sexual harassment.

Wiping tears, the woman, who up until that point had remained relatively composed, fired back, screaming the case was not about money and she had made the allegations because "they are true".

Ms Powell also found herself in a war of words with the woman's boss who took exception to the tone she was using only to be scolded with the reply "don't speak that way to me".

When asked by Magistrate Graeme Tatnell to lower her voice, Ms Powell replied "I can't help it".

Another of the woman's supervisors told the court that when Barney was suspended from work, he replied "you have gone too far this time...you are in deep s***".

The hearing continues.
