We're happy, we know it and we're definitely not alone

CASE Wockner and Rosie Kent are two people rarely without a smile.

They believe the right work-life balance is essential to a happy life, have jobs they love and are known for their positive outlooks.

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development's Better Life Index ranked Australia the happiest nation for the third straight year, outranking 36 nations including Sweden and Canada.

Factors such as income, jobs, housing and health satisfaction were considered, and Toowoomba has benefits by the bucket load.

"I think the best thing about Toowoomba is housing affordability," Mr Wockner, the Toowoomba Prep School's marketing coordinator, said.

"One thing that makes me happy is that I don't have to pay half a million dollars on my mortgage."

Ms Kent, a consultant at Classic Recruitment, said life was just better all-round in the garden city.

"I think happiness comes down to your attitude and what you want to get out of things," said.

"I'm very lucky in what I do every day that I get something out of it that I love."
