Cassie aces the money tournament

THE 82nd ranked ladies player in Australia, Cassie Gramlick, won the first Australia Money Tournament held in Warwick at the weekend.

The tournament was a white ranked (lowest) event and attracted 47 players from Queensland and New South Wales.

Gramlick won the ladies singles final in straight sets.

The men’s winner was Gavin van Peperzeel who is ranked in the top 100 in Australia.

Warwick Tennis Association acting president Nathan Costello said another money tournament would be hosted in October next year.

“There is prize money but the players are more interested in points to improve their Australian rankings to get into bigger tournaments,” Costello said.

“Players came from as far as Barcaldine in Queensland and the North Coast of New South Wales.

“Most were from Brisbane and the Gold Coast.”

In February, Warwick hosts a junior tournament for national ranking points for under 14 and under 16 players over two weekends which, according to Costello, would be the biggest tournament held in Warwick in recent years.
