Cattle prices fall at Warwick sale
CATTLE prices continued to fall at the Warwick Cattle Sale this week, as the dry weather outlook increased the yarding by 65%.
There was also a slip in the overall quality and this was most noticeable in the cow section.
A fair panel of buyers was present and operating however prices fell across all classes.
Light weight lines of yearling steers and heifers were the least affected.
Medium and heavy weight yearling steers and heifers to feed sold to a market 10c to 20c/kg cheaper.
The small selection of bullocks lost 17c and a fairly large sample of cows averaged 10c to 17c/kg less.
Calves returning to the paddock made to 332.2c to average 309c/kg.
Vealer heifers averaged 10c/kg cheaper, with most around 296c and some to 322.2c/kg.
Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock made to the occasional 369.2c with a fairly large sample around 323c/kg.
Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 296c and sold to 314.2c/kg.
Heavy weights to feed averaged close to 290c with some to 295c/kg.
A few to the trade made to 303.2c to average 294c/kg.
Some well-bred light weight yearling heifers experienced strong demand and made to 326.2c, with most around 317c/kg.
Medium weights to feed mostly sold around 275c to 280c with some to 288.2c/kg.
Heavy weights to feed averaged 277c and local trade lines averaged a similar amount and made to 296.2c/kg.
Some bullocks to the wholesale meat trade reached 277.2c, with the remainder around 267c/kg.
Medium weight 2 score cows average 195c and made to 201.2c/kg.
A fair sample of good heavy cows averaged 221c and made to 227.2c/kg.
Heavy bulls made to 255.2c/kg.
