CBD bingles, driving offences on increase

AFTER a string of bingles in the Rose City CBD, Warwick Police are asking drivers to keep their wits about them.

After numerous vehicle incidents around the area Acting Senior Sergeant Lisa Self has asked those on the road to be just as vigilant in town as they would on roads they don't know.

"Traffic crashes have gone up in the past couple of weeks, people need to remember luck is the only difference between a non-injury accident and a fatality," she said. A two-vehicle incident at a roundabout on the corner of Palmerin and Victoria Sts has resulted in serious sprains to a driver's neck, back and shoulders.

Police allege the Saturday morning crash was caused by a failure to give way. A drink driver was intercepted for a random breath test on Hawker Rd at 11.30pm Friday.

When tested the 31-year-old local woman allegedly produced a blood alcohol reading of .164.

Other traffic incidents through the district included four crashes, two complaints of dangerous driving, one charge of driving without care and the arrest of two disqualified drivers.

A 23-year-old Warwick man was also charged for causing a number of problems along Marshall St over the weekend. Caught and charged for unlawfully entering premises the man was also charged with wilful damage to both a fence and car parked on the street.

When arrested the man caused a scuffle with police and he was charged for obstructing police and public nuisance.

Likelihood of accident vs distance from home

  • < 8km = 52%
  • 10-15km = 17%
  • 18-25km = 8%
  • > 30km = 23%
