Warwick club reaches a century

TWO past presidents of the men’s and ladies’ clubs, Frank and Judith Cleal, will drive from Buderim, Sunshine Coast, for the 100-year celebrations of the Warwick Bowls Club on Sunday.

For more than 90 years, the Warwick club and all others in the state had separate clubs for men and ladies even though they used the same facilities.

Warwick Bowls Club was the first in the district to comply with a Bowls Queensland request to amalgamate, and it happened on February 17, 2001.

There is now a management committee responsible for finances and separate men’s and ladies’ sections to conduct bowls.

On Sunday, John Shannon, Ken Whitton, Jo McKaskill and Necia Creighton will represent the district.
